The thing you have to know about me, Miranda, is I am a HUGE Swiftie. I’m not, like, crazy post-on-TikTok-all-the-time-crazy, but I am preeetty crazy for Taylor Swift and all of her music.

I’ve been a fan since day one with “Tim McGraw” and “Tear Drops on My Guitar”. I always play her music around the apartment, and big brother Kap has always been used to hearing Taylor Swift since he was a kitten as John is a casual Swiftie (John’s favorite album is Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)) and has been playing Taylor’s music off and on for all nine years of Kap’s life.
On the night of Franklin’s adoption, as I held his tiny body in the small carrier on my lap on the drive home, I couldn’t help one of my first thoughts being, “What Taylor song am I going to play for Franklin first?” There were so many good options! “All Too Well” (TV) is my absolute favorite song, so that was a top choice. My favorite album is reputation, and there are just so many killer songs on that album that could totally have been Franklin’s first song. And of course there’s the obvious (to the hardcore Swifties) of playing “ME!” because that’s the music video where Taylor met her third cat, Benjamin Button, who himself is a Ragdoll- specifically a Chocolate Bicolor.
With so many options it actually took me a few days to figure out what to play Franklin, until I realized I had already been walking around the apartment singing a song and not even realizing I was doing it! (You can usually find me singing Taylor Swift songs under my breath, so this shouldn't have been such a big surprise to me of all people, haha). And Franklin seemed to enjoy it when I sang this particular song to him, so I decided that the song that has been playing on repeat in my mind all summer had to be his first Taylor Swift song:
“Cruel Summer” from Lover.
I played "Cruel Summer" for Franklin, holding him in my arms and swaying side to side, and we had a lovely time singing the bridge and screaming, “He looks up grinning like a devil!” Because of course we did ;)
As we get closer to October 27- OMG just a few days away!!! - I have been making sure to play some songs off 1989 for Franklin - think “Blank Space” and “Style” - but as the current album on Spotify is the stolen version I am mostly waiting to play him all of 1989 once it is officially Taylor’s Version.
So anyways, in conclusion, Franklin is a Swiftie and enjoys all of her music. And so far, his favorite album is, in fact, Lover.
