Just like humans, cats have their own personalities (cat-alities?) and with each cat comes their own individual likes and dislikes. When it comes to picking toys for Franklin, we originally took our best guesses based on what Kap liked. Now that we've had Franklin for six months, it has become blatantly obvious which of his toys he loves, and which he has hidden under the couch, never to see the light of day again.
But how does Franklin's favorites line up with what the internet says are cats' favorite toys?

Based on my research, the toys listed on Chewy's Top 10 Cat Toys 2024 List, which was curated based on cat-owner reviews, sums up the recent big favorites amongst cats.
The Top 3 are:
Bird with Feathers Teaser Toy
Catnip Yellow Banana Toy
Skitter Critters
All images owned by Chewy
None of these toys are in Franklin's (or Kap's) top 3 favorites, BUT Franklin does have the number one choice, and he does enjoy it. Basically if there's a toy attached to a string, Franklin will play with it a lot.

Franklin & Bird with Feathers Teaser Toy
A fun fact about me: I hate bananas. So I would never allow the boys to have a banana toy (lol). Franklin has the carrot version of the number two favorite toy, which comes with catnip inside. Franklin loved the carrot the first night, and then completely lost interest the next day. He enjoys when I throw it for him, but even then he'll run after it maybe once before mewing for a different game. I'm sure when we put more catnip inside he'll go crazy for it, but since he isn't a huge fan all the time, it's definitely not in his top favorite toys,
While we don't have the same version of Skitter Critters listed above, we have very similar mice and similarly-shaped toys. The attention span for these toys is very hit or miss, mostly miss. Franklin will play with them very rarely, usually batting them around the living room until they slide under the couch, his version of a toy graveyard. RIP skitter critters.
"Meow mow mew meoooww!!!" -Franklin (Now for my favorites!!!)
As mentioned previously, Franklin LOVES toys that are attached to a string. It should be no surprise to anyone to learn that his number one favorite toy of all time is...
Insert drumroll...

MOTH ON A STRING!!!
That's it. Pretty basic toy, and he loves it. It's almost a garuantee that any time John or I pick up this toy (or accidentally move it) Franklin is ready to attack! He swats and jumps after it, and when he catches it he likes to run off with his prey and chew on it. We don't know why he loves these little moths more than anything else, but this is also Kap's favorite toy, so clearly a good guess would be: since big brother loves it, little brother loves it too!
Franklin's second favorite toy is the Tower of Tracks, which is number five on Chewy's Top 10 List. When he starts, Franklin won't stop swatting the balls that run along the interior tracks and running in circles along with them. How he doesn't get dizzy is beyond me.
And third on Franklin's list is not one mentioned on Chewy's list. It came to us via John's dad when we watched Missy over the Christmas holidays. He brought us a cat laser pointer that Missy loves, and when he and John's mom returned to get Missy they left the laser pointer behind.

This is the toy that has taught Franklin so much about stalking prey. In December when he first played with it, Franklin would run after it back and forth and back and forth, nonstop. After a few weeks he started watching it from afar, tracking its every movements, and pouncing when the time was right. It's a great toy for when Franklin has major zoomies and we need him to stop- nothing stops him like the mysterious red light!
In conclusion, Franklin has very similar tastes to the Top 10 List on Chewy.com, but overall he is his own cat with his own top 3 toys and overall favorites in life.
