Franklin's First Birthday

Writer's picture: Miranda MorrisseyMiranda Morrissey

I can't believe our baby boy is a year old today!!!!

🥳Happy Birthday Franklin Tiger Batinovich Morrissey🎂

Wow... I cannot believe how the time has slipped on by. We adopted Franklin when he was about 8-9 weeks old, which means that we've had him in our lives for 10 months! I know I already said it, but I cannot believe it.

In honor of his big day, I'm going to post my favorite picture of him from each month that we've had him, from September 2023 to June 2024. And, one of my favorite things, a side-by-side comparison of when we first got him and he fell asleep on the kitchen chair, to him currently when he falls asleep on the same kitchen chair. Franklin is still a small (albeit long) boy, as Ragdolls do not fully reach adulthood until they're about 3 years old, but he has gotten so big in comparison to the 2 pound itty bitty baby he was on the day we first met him (he's 8 pounds now!).

Franklin, thank you so much for being a shining beacon in our lives, finding us at a time where we needed that light most. Every day I am grateful to be Meemaw to Franklin and Kap, but not a day goes by that I don't remember why Franklin came into our lives. His middle name, Tiger, is the name of our cat who passed away last September. Tiger left a hole in our hearts that no other cat can fill, but that's the thing with animals: they are not meant to completely fill a hole. We are meant to find love and companionship with our pets, who get us through specific times of our lives. I wish with all my heart that our pets lived as long as humans do, but they don't. Tiger got John through his childhood and early adulthood, and he saw to it that John found me. Kap got John through undergrad and his master's program, as well as helping Tiger find me lol, and now Kap is seeing us through the transition of moving into a new home and taking care of his little brother.

This post has gotten a little sad, I know, so I want to lift it back up by saying that Franklin is a very special, very loving boy who brings so much joy not into just our lives, but to everyone who meets him, be it online or in person. Please enjoy the following pictures from each month that we've had him in our lives. :)

Today, we celebrate Franklin with new toys, lots of treats, and extra long hugs and snuggle time. And yes, if he chooses to run across my keyboard today, I will let him (within reason, I can't have him deleting stuff, haha) and I will post whatever message he may write.

Thank you all for following along and reading about Franklin and all of his adventures with me, John, and big brother Kap!
