Franklin and Kap are NOT fans of Meemaw and Pop-pop going on vacation...
We get it. John and I are AWESOME (lol). But in all seriousness it's so hard to leave fur babies at home for days at a time because they don't speak English-- they don't understand we're leaving for longer than usual, and that we are coming back!
Kap is obviously more used to it than Franklin. He knows exactly what it means when we get our suitcases out. Franklin, on the other hand, thought the suitcases were cool new beds for him to lounge in. It wasn't until we were about to leave, with Kap watching us with sad eyes, that I could see Franklin begin to understand that this was going to be different.
And of course, John and I made a huge mistake. We forgot to introduce Franklin to our cat sitter, our friend Mario. Kap knew him, so there was no problem on his part. When Mario came over for breakfast and dinner Kap was ready to welcome Mario into his home and be fed. Franklin, however, took one look at Mario when he came over the first time and meow-screamed, "Stranger Danger!" and ran off to hide. And then he hid every. single. time. Mario came over.
Whoops...
Our bad, Mario!
John and I may go away for Christmas this year, and if we do we have learned from our mistake: Introduce Franklin to the cat sitter with both of us present to make sure he knows the cat sitter is friend, not foe.
It is really good to know though that Franklin understands the concept of Stranger Danger and, God forbid, should someone enter our home that should not be there, his first instinct is to hide. There is nothing I want more than for our fur babies to be safe!
