Happy Birthday Meemaw!

Writer's picture: Miranda MorrisseyMiranda Morrissey

As soon as I began trying to write this blog post Franklin jumped onto the table to rub my face and give kisses, which is very sweet, but unhelpful when it comes to typing, lol. So in honor of his sweetness I am leaving in the message he wrote me while refusing to get off my keyboard:

Thanks, buddy :)

Today is my first birthday living in another state! I am a born and raised California Girl, transplanted to Nevada for a change of pace, a quieter and nicer neighborhood, and more bang for our buck. I'm not exactly sure how I'll be celebrating today (I just got a new job so I may actually be working) but I know it will include a call with my parents, lots of sweet cuddles and kisses from Franklin and Kap, and of course a romantic dinner with John.

This will be my last year in my twenties, and I'm very excited for what the future holds. Since moving, I've had more time to focus on my dreams of writing and editing. I've had inspiration for new stories and a new story blog! (I'll touch more on that in a moment) And most importantly, I feel able to breathe again. I'm happy. I'm getting more much needed sleep! The stresses of my last job are gone (though I still have weird dreams about the people I used to work with- all good, but still, weird); and I'm not as worried about my safety. I can walk around our neighborhood without getting catcalled by groups of men or yelled at by mentally unwell homeless people. It may be extremely hot - I'm talking 110 degrees! - but this move has been so worth it.

We also joined a country club! While John can golf to his heart's desire I can go to the gym and THE POOL to my heart's desire. I love the pool, specifically the hot tub, which is so good for my chronic pain. I do not care that it is over 100 degrees out, I will sit in that hot tub for ten minutes and then pour cold water on my flip flops so I don't burn my feet getting out. It's wonderful.

If you've gotten this far in the blog, then my birthday wish from you is to click the link HERE and read the first post in my new blog series. As a way to keep my creative juices flowing, I am writing 1-2k word short stories based on a Taylor Swift song. Using a wheel generator, I am selecting the album, a song from within said album, and a story genre. From there I like to listen to an instrumental version of the song, and for the next hour I write whatever feels good. Sometimes, when I've been working on a project for too long, I feel a little stunted. Like I am just too tired to work on the same thing and want a break, but most breaks lead to distraction within another full-length story. This writing exercise allows me to get the creative juices flowing without the dedication that a full-length manuscript requires.

And so far, I love it.🥰

I realize this post was a little bit more about me than I intended instead of Franklin, but hey, it's my birthday!
