Kap turned 10 years old on November 15, 2023
For the two years I've known him, he's been an old man, preferring his comfy spots sleeping on the floor on clothes or market bags, eating twice a day, and trying to trick us into letting him eat more than twice a day.
Pretty sedentary lifestyle.
Then along came Franklin and BANG! Kap is jumping around on things, being more vocal, and wanting to be with family-- still a few feet away, but he still wants to be in the room, not just somewhere in the apartment where he knows where we are but we have no idea where he is.
Franklin meow-screams at me every second, and Kap now does it a few times if I am not quick enough to get their food in the bowls.
Franklin jumps on the table and counters to steal people food. Kap does it now too, and it is harder to defend against him because he is BIG and he is HEAVY (about 17 pounds, which isn't a lot, but in cat pounds, it IS a lot). Most recently we have caught him stealing steak from inside the fridge (good to know our fridge door is broken) and he jumped onto the stovetop to steal milk from teh cereal bowl I left there, thinking it was safe! Thank goodness the stove wasn't on...
Don't get me wrong. I am so happy that Kap is doing so well. The last year has been a long battle for both him and John & I when it comes to diabetes. We don't speak cat, and Kap doesn't speak English, so there's no way for us to tell him what's going on or make him understand that we hav to do certain things certain ways in order to keep him happy and healthy.
And, most shocking of all: Kap is a more-skilled fighter than I ever would have guessed. He used to run from a fight with Tiger (rest in peace), but now with Franklin, even as Franklin has gotten bigger (7 pounds!) Kap can still take Franklin down in one hit when he wants. Other times, he allows Franklin to try and pounce and beat him in a fight, but once Kap deems the fight over, the fight is over.
Ding! Ding!
Franklin was like a breath of new life in Kap. Kap is more active and more friendly thanks to his little brother, and it is so sweet to watch as their bond grows every day. They are the best brothers who love each other even though Franklin can be quite annoying, as he always wants to play and never wants to stop meow-screaming.
