Lorelai & Rory &... Franklin?

Writer's picture: Miranda MorrisseyMiranda Morrissey

"Where you lead, {Franklin} will follow. Anywhere..." Literally anywhere and everywhere. Trust me.

Last week, the absolute cutest thing I've seen Franklin do in the two months that we've had him occurred... he watched an episode of Gilmore Girls! I kid you not, he watched it. And he would have watched the entire episode if I hadn't had to get out of bed!

But I'm jumping ahead a bit. Let's set the seen...

It was 4:45am on Monday, November 6. Daylight Savings had reared it's nasty head the day before and so Franklin and Kap woke me up early because, technically, I was late for breakfast (which is usually somewhere between 5:45am-6:15am). Franklin ran into the bedroom, jumped on the bed, and walked across my neck, all while meow-screaming that he was hungry and ready for breakfast.

Rather than fight it, I decided to just get up so I could quickly feed them and then maybe get another hour of sleep before I had to force myself up for work. By 5am I was back in bed, half asleep, when all of a sudden Franklin again runs into the room meow-screaming. Only this time, the meow-screams were full of fear and panic. Somewhere outside our apartment, another cat was yowling, and it didn't sound good. I still don't know what happened to that other cat (hopefully it's okay) but in that groggy moment all I knew was that my baby was in distress and I needed to make things all better.

And in my groggy, delirious state I thought to myself, "Gilmore Girls makes me feel better. Maybe it'll make Franklin feel better." So, with Franklin curled up against my chest, trembling and meow-screaming in my ear, I grabbed my phone and put on a random episode of the show. Franklin immediately zeroed in on the screen, and for the next half hour I watched a kitten watch TV. It was so extremely cute that I was so peeved that I had to get up and get ready for work. The cat that had been screaming outside eventually calmed down, but as it yowled during the first few minutes of the episode, Franklin paid the other cat no attention. He was fixated on watching Lorelai help Rory move into Yale.

Since that day, I have played Gilmore Girls for Franklin two more times, and each time he has stopped what he is doing, curled into my chest, and watched Gilmore Girls. Now I know what it's like for my parents to see me enjoying a movie or TV show that they love. My fur baby loves one of my top 3 favorite TV shows. It's a great feeling, made even better by the fact that Franklin is a kitten and it is, as I've already said and will proudly say again: So. Frickin. CUTE.

(This cast picture I edited cracks me up, enjoy!)
