One of the few downsides to moving out of state is leaving our vet behind. John and I started taking the boys to the vet I grew up with in Glendale, shout out to Best Care Pet Clinic! All of the staff are incredibly nice, and they put your pet first over any dollar amount. This is not a sponsored ad or anything, I just grew up loving them for my dogs, loved them anew for my cats, and I'm sad we won't be taking the boys there anymore. I trust them, which I can't say about a lot of vets.
However, with that said, John and I have found a new vet that we really like only a few minutes away from our new home! For our privacy I will not be naming the vet clinic, but should anyone from that clinic recognize our boys, please know we are very happy with the way they, and us humans, have been treated so far.
I knew once we moved we would need to find a vet, but I didn't think we'd need to find one so quickly. Within a few weeks of moving we had difficulty getting Kap's prescription food from Chewy, and we had a scare. It's so hard to have a cat with diabetes because one of the side effects Kap has is that he always feels hungry. So if we aren't extremely careful (usually having to feed Franklin in another room so Kap can't steal his food) Kap will end up over eating. And since he doesn't speak English and we don't speak Cat, we can't get him to understand that overeating is incredibly bad for him.
And, on top of that, not all foods are friendly to Kap's glucose levels. Which we found out anew the hard way when we were trying to give him another type of food while dealing with the prescription issue. He began acting very lethargic, hiding away, and throwing up everything he ate. So after two meals like this John and I took Kap to a nearby vet, and we were able to get a new prescription from them as well as better food for him to eat while we waited on the Chewy delivery.

The staff were all incredibly friendly, adored Kap, and they didn't try to talk us into unnecessary, costly testing like his original vet did back in Hollywood (the one before Best Care in Glendale). The Hollywood vet (which I am not naming) truly only cared about getting money. Any time we took Kap we would be out hundreds of dollars (like in the $500-$600 range, which is NOT okay). In Glendale, and now in Vegas, we usually don't pay more than maybe $300 for Kap, depending on the testing that actually needs to be done.
So for Kap, they only checked what they thought was necessary. They took the time to discuss everything with us so we knew exactly what they were doing, and if we suggested something that would end up giving them more money, the vet techs and doctors gave us honest answers, being most of the time that no, this or that test was not necessary. The Hollywood vet would have said "OMG YES" without hesitation, the greedy bastards. Excuse my language, but they were truly awful.
Anyways... After bringing Kap home from the new vet he began to do much better with the temporary food the new doctor recommended, and once his prescription food arrived two days later he has been his old, lovely self again, no more scares.
I decided to take Franklin for a checkup since I still didn't have a new job yet, and things like writing and unpacking could be easily done around whenever the vet could see us. John and I hadn't taken Fran to the vet since he got his vaccines last year, as he hadn't really had a reason to go, so I took him just to make sure he was doing well, growing as he should, and the stress of moving and eating new bugs hadn't done any damage.
Just like Kap, everyone at the clinic loved Franklin. At home he has anxiety around new people, but at the vet it doesn't seem to be as bad. When we first arrived he didn't want anyone but me touching him, but once he was taken to the back to be examined by the doctor, he did great. Everyone loved him (how can you not?) and took turns holding him. I was honestly shocked he let so many people hold him when the vet tech told me about it! She also declared Franklin got a clean bill of health! He's doing well, growing right on schedule, and weighs eight pounds! Our little boy is growing up so fast.
